Report On Business

Last month the Globe and Mail featured KORHANI home in the Report On Business ‘Made in Canada: Six companies keep it local’.

“The synergy between our domestic productions here in Canada and KORHANI home’s branding initiatives will create products that will be second to none in the market.” says Moji Korhani, owner, KORHANI home.

The Article: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/rob-magazine/made-in-canada-six-companies-that-keep-it-local/article4634304/

Number of employees: 150.

Length of carpet produced annually if it were cut into one-metre squares and placed end-to-end:  2,351 CN Towers.

Price of its “Assunta” throw rug: $40.

Family-owned Korhani is only about one-100ths the size of the world’s largest carpet manufacturer, Georgia-based Shaw Industries, owned by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway. But if carpet companies were ranked by chutzpah, Korhani would come in No. 1.

At the last three Toronto Fashion Weeks, it has — incongruously — clothed runway models in swatches of carpet (its carpet-cum-fashion has since appeared on runways in Berlin). The PR stunt was the brainchild of Kirsten Korhani, the company’s creative director (the Korhani family, originally from Iran, has been making and selling carpets since 1902).

In Korhani’s most recent designs, colours are bright, patterns are bold, and the overall effect is, well, out there. The wow factor seems to be working: Although exports make up less than half of the company’s revenue — in Canada, the carpets retail in Walmart, among other stores — sales to the United States and Europe are growing. The company has just one factory, in Sorel-Tracy south of Montreal, and since 2001 production is up fivefold — the facility now runs 24 hours a day.

David Pecaut Square becomes the most Fashionable Environment

Toronto kicks off fashion week today with over 30 000 square feet of tent space and a 100 ft catwalk in the main room. With each show expecting 900 guests, the Fashion Environment has been spectacularly designed to entertain those anticipating the coming shows. KORHANI home sponsors MasterCard Fashion Week again this season with  an exclusive media carpet, welcoming each and every attendee who comes to spectate what talent Canada has to offer.

This year’s Fashionable attendees show off their best looks, passing by MasterCard Fashion Week’s banner.

The tents erected at David Pecaut Square, an amazing location in the heart of Downtown’s fashion district. Surrounded by lights, resultants, theaters, cinemas and clubs, the central spot could not have been more appropriate!

Fashionable Homes and Heels!

Parading the perfect pair of heels is one of the best ways to make a profound fashion statement! Another way of giving a punch to your style at home is by featuring a powerful rug! This rug pattern from our Mongolian Beauty collection is packed with colour and totally match those amazing PRADA shoes of yours ;) !

At KORHANI home we love matching fashion with interiors, giving rooms tuns of excitement! Who is your favourite shoe designer? Could you design your room around your most coveted pair?!

Dear Beautiful People,

Have you ever been to a model casting? Ever waited in long lines of beautiful people? Well, we did last week at our casting for MasterCard Fashion Week.

Each model had to strut their stuff in a big room in front of a panel of judges (us)! The actual process only takes about 30 seconds per person but you would be surprised at how tiring it gets!

At the end of the day comes the decision making, sorting through over a hundred different faces… Who gets chosen?! I guess there is only one way to find out!

NUIT BLANCHE A Colourful Recap

Leading up to this past weekend we couldn’t wait for Nuit Blanche. My favourite part was everyone out and about on the streets of Toronto enjoying endless activity. It was exciting to see all the cameras snapping shots of their favourite pieces. Did you capture anything spectacular?! Here are some highlights from the weekend.

Lights on all night long! What time did you finally hit the sack?

Capturing a capture!

Light Show

Art for the All Nighter- NUIT BLANCHE

This Saturday September 29th, Nuit Blanche once again open’s its gallery doors to the city of Toronto.

Creative people are the ones who pave the way of the aesthetic future. We come up with new and never before seen ideas, we embrace stories and visual direction and maybe most importantly, we participate. Styles do not come and go all by themselves, they must have followers to instigate their greatness and live it out! Toronto throws a great artists’ event for that purpose exactly. Nuit Blanche has taken place for 6 years, over-running the city from dusk until dawn enlightening its city people. Will you be out this weekend? What could be a grander event to find inspiration?

Nathan Phillips Square Lit up for Nuit Blanche.

The event, sponsored by Scotia Bank is FREE and open all night long.

Huge installations are exhibited all over down town. This light-bright wall was fun for everyone!

There are always tuns of interactive art pieces, encouraging people to create themselves in the night!

You can also find meandering exhibits roaming through the streets. Zombies show themselves each year, at any unexpecting street corner!

Favourites from the Toronto IIDEX Show

Last week KORHANI home’s design team got to skip work to check out the amazing IIDEX interior and architecture show in downtownToronto! Some of the highlights were the conceptual adaptations of every day objects into spectacular interior art works and amazing products ranging from innovative eco floorings to growing walls. Thousands of ideas for truly creative spaces! Here are some of our favourites, such inspiration!

This instillation piece reminds us of German designer Lars Contzen! Read our blog entry about him!

Rug art! Love this one!

TEXTURE

How important is texture to you? Whether it is smooth, rough or soft texture invokes a fantastic sense of mood. Consider TEXTURE next time you redecorate. Maybe it will make your bedroom that much more inviting, emulate your strength, or invoke a past life!

Smooth surfaces are clean and powerful.

Rough walls and floors look vintage and classic.

A soft rug creates a cozy romantic feel.
