Spotlight: celeb highlights from Berlin Fashion Week

We’re back from Berlin and our show had a great turnout. Here are some of our favourite celebrity photos from the event if you weren’t there to catch a glimpse in person! The red carpet was on fire with German celebrities Palina RojinskiLexy Hell and Bonnie Strange making appearances.

Bonnie is wearing a carpet couture dress made out of our Belle du Jour carpets (available February 1 online.) This sexy theme is perfect for a walk-in closet or an area rug in a powder room.

Berlin Fashion Week: Behind-the-scenes

The past two days have been chaotic with final model castings and fittings. Our show producer Hans and our creative director Kirsten had so many talented models to choose from for our runway show.

Now with models chosen, each carpet couture outfit has to be tailored to fit perfectly for each of our 33 looks. To kick-off the show celebrity model Bonnie Strange (with her bright green hair!) will be dressed as one of our Femme Fatales in our Parisian Affair theme. Her energy and persona is exactly what we were looking for.

Can’t wait for the KORHANI home show tomorrow! Keep posted for more backstage pics and photos from our show.

Trending: wearing brocade to holiday parties

December is the month full of parties: work parties, Christmas parties and the biggest bash of all – New Year’s Eve. It’s important to stand out – in the right way. Brocade is a lavish and holiday-worthy trend that will give your outfit the perfect amount of elegance.

Dolce & Gabbana’s Winter 2013 Collection was full of this chic look – inspired by Sicilian Baroque. KORHANI’s Bianka rug and gold frame bring the luxurious trend from the runway into your home.

Remember, keep it simple. Wear brocade on only one element of your ensemble. If your dress is full of gilded brocade, keep your shoes simple. Same goes with makeup. Make your eyes pop by adding gold highlights to a classic smoky eye.

David Pecaut Square becomes the most Fashionable Environment

Toronto kicks off fashion week today with over 30 000 square feet of tent space and a 100 ft catwalk in the main room. With each show expecting 900 guests, the Fashion Environment has been spectacularly designed to entertain those anticipating the coming shows. KORHANI home sponsors MasterCard Fashion Week again this season with  an exclusive media carpet, welcoming each and every attendee who comes to spectate what talent Canada has to offer.

This year’s Fashionable attendees show off their best looks, passing by MasterCard Fashion Week’s banner.

The tents erected at David Pecaut Square, an amazing location in the heart of Downtown’s fashion district. Surrounded by lights, resultants, theaters, cinemas and clubs, the central spot could not have been more appropriate!

Makeup Madness- Perfecting the Pucker

Show time is quickly approaching and one element of colossal importance is….  You guessed it, makeup. Why is it so important to get a look perfected? What is the perfect look and how do you even reach it? Backstage at a fashion show is a magical place where hours of hard work and planning are puzzled together in a haze of frenzy, scramble and tension to put forth spectacular shows where everyone’s eyes are on your models and makeup is so much of a looks personality.

Here are some helpful steps for the aspiring makeup artist.

Step ONE: Tear sheets.

Scrounge through your favourite magazines and online grabbing images of your favourite looks. Pick the images that best suit your theme and ALWAYS save the rest for another time! You will use them!

Step TWO: Product

Product is VERY important in getting the perfect look. Each brand is unique and can perform differently depending on what you do with it. It is also important to test colours and sample swatches; this can be done with your makeup artist and at department or cosmetic stores. This year Toronto Fashion week’s makeup is sponsored by Maybelline Canada.

Step THREE: Test Run

Test runs are very important before hand because there is not room for mistakes backstage. Sometimes there are 50 models or more that must have their faces perfected. If you are in need of technique tips there are tons of makeup tutorials online from some of the world’s makeup masters!

Will you be attending MasterCard Fashion Week this October? If you do, don’t forget to appreciate the makeup artists backstage!

Dear Beautiful People,

Have you ever been to a model casting? Ever waited in long lines of beautiful people? Well, we did last week at our casting for MasterCard Fashion Week.

Each model had to strut their stuff in a big room in front of a panel of judges (us)! The actual process only takes about 30 seconds per person but you would be surprised at how tiring it gets!

At the end of the day comes the decision making, sorting through over a hundred different faces… Who gets chosen?! I guess there is only one way to find out!

Follow us on twitter (@KORHANIhome) and facebook (KORHANI home) for behind the scenes details about MasterCard Fashion Week!!

About Inspiration, With Designer Kirsten Korhani

Inspiration sources for Kirsten Korhani, Creative Director and Designer at KORHANI home, run deep. The inspiration for the Fall 2012 Mongolian Beauty collection came from a forever desire to travel to Mongolia and the glorious cinema screens.  Maybe it was the momentous landscapes, the nomadic people, or meditative aesthetic that fueled Kirsten’s design choices, but whatever the source of inspiration, each season Kirsten seizes success.
