Beyond Venice

Venice is known for its masquerades, lavish costumes and gilded facades, but the mastery in ornament does not end within its canals. Burano, one of many small islands surrounding Venice has a unique and exquisit specialty of its own. Similar to Venice, it us made up of several canals that direct its tourists and few inhabitants. The island specializes in lace and has done so for hundreds of years.

The intricate lace patterns from Burano have influenced the world. The city, thought to be founded in the 6th century was visited by many famous scholars, including Leonardo da Vinci, who aided the popularity and spread of these stylistic details. KORHANI home’s Venice Carnival collection has designs inspired by such elaborate patterns.

All hand crafted, the city is the world’s finest producer of lace. Specializing in a craft for so many centuries has allowed time for its signature patterns to find themselves in our own current designs. KORHANI home has adopted some of these patterns by way of stylistic evolution!

David Pecaut Square becomes the most Fashionable Environment

Toronto kicks off fashion week today with over 30 000 square feet of tent space and a 100 ft catwalk in the main room. With each show expecting 900 guests, the Fashion Environment has been spectacularly designed to entertain those anticipating the coming shows. KORHANI home sponsors MasterCard Fashion Week again this season with  an exclusive media carpet, welcoming each and every attendee who comes to spectate what talent Canada has to offer.

Dear Beautiful People,

Have you ever been to a model casting? Ever waited in long lines of beautiful people? Well, we did last week at our casting for MasterCard Fashion Week.

Each model had to strut their stuff in a big room in front of a panel of judges (us)! The actual process only takes about 30 seconds per person but you would be surprised at how tiring it gets!

At the end of the day comes the decision making, sorting through over a hundred different faces… Who gets chosen?! I guess there is only one way to find out!

Rugs are like new clothes, change it with the season!

This month, Elle Canada did a story on their collaboration with KORHANI home to design three unique rugs.  Senior editor, Christina Reynolds, sat down with KORHANI home’s in-house design team to create her blue, grey, and white rug creations, taking her inspiration from the Spring 2012 runways.

Elle Canada's Christina Reynolds collaborated with KORHANI home to create these rug designs.

Her designs resemble fluid and simple designs of interweaving and snakeskin inspired prints.  The colours are light and neutral and can easily work well from season to season, or if you’re more like Christina, change them up  like you do your clothes to freshen the space up a little.

Each chic rug is available for under $200, and when they’re this affordable, why not consider changing them up each season?   The colour palettes are easy to work with no matter what your style is — modern, eccentric, or traditional.

Elle Canada is also holding a contest for readers to enter to win one of three of Christina’s designs, at ellecanada.ca/celebrate, but if you’ve already got your heart set on one of her designs, they can be purchased at our online shop — $130 for a 7×9, or $195 for 8×11 (sizes are approximate).

What makes it even better is that LG Fashion Week guests had the opportunity to buy their own leopard rug, browse the KORHANI home website right there on site and even place an order online right there and then.
